Summertime pleasures

All at the same time. Summertime is pretty good here at druid labs. We are an inherently lazy race. It helps, of course, to live off the beaten path, away from critical, prying eyes that would demand our lawn be cut twice weekly, the shrubs pruned squarely, and war declared on the deer. But this dead-end road affords us a kind of languid lifestyle - oh we do indeed trim, mow, and rake (though the deer are welcome to whatever they can scarf down), but in our own time, and in our own way. It's more important to observe how many male hummingbirds are fighting at our feeders, for instance, than to make sure the walkways are edged. No one walks the walkways but us, and even then, rarely. We prefer to barge through the woods, mostly, and discover what's off the path. So the crabgrass can have at the edges, as far as we care. The violets and pigworts can grow in the poor lawn, and the rabbits can dine there. At night we listen to the tree frogs, watch for satellites, swat the very occasional mosquito (thank you bats and dragonflies!) and dream of projects that we'll never complete even if we muster up the energy to begin them.
Life is good at druid labs in summertime.
